3, 2, 1…The CIRAN Video Contest is on!
(The information for participation included in this post in all 24 EU languages + Serbian and Norwegian will be available for download here soon)
Actions that characterise our daily routines, like electrification, digitalisation (including mobile phones and tablets!), heat, and cooling, all need an ample amount of natural resources. But mining comes with environmental and social impacts, including possible damage to the natural landscape, pollution, and social injustice. At the same time, modern research shows that these negative effects can be minimised, and that mining can actually be a good source of employment and solve the high need for these resources in Europe.
- What are your thoughts on that?
- How do you think conflicts over resources can be minimised in the future while still satisfying the need for resources as best as possible?
- Can you show us one example of how natural resources are part of your daily routine?
- How would a day be without these natural resources?
- Are you aged between 12 and 19 years old and based in Europe?
Share your thoughts in up to 2 minutes and be one of the winners of an exciting price!
CIRAN launches a VIDEO CONTEST FOR 12-19 YEARS OLD TEENAGERS IN EUROPE! Participate on your own, or as part of a team. You may involve your classmates, parents, siblings, and friends, forming a group of up to 4 people. Show us how you think resource conflicts can be minimised in the future in an up-to-2-minutes-long video!
The deadline for submissions is the 31 May 2025.

Multiple Languages
- You are born between 2006 and 2013 and your legal guardians consent to your participation, if you are not yet 18 years old.
- We encourage group submissions from up to 4 participants.
- All underage participants need to have a Statement of Consent signed by their parents or legal guardians. This means, that in a group of 4 minors, you will need to upload one document containing 4 statements of consent compiled.
- Groups can be formed among friends, classmates, or relatives, and may be a combination of these.
- Important: the leading person’s year of birth needs to match with the age requirement!
- The leading person is the main driver behind the ideas of the submitted video.
- You do not have to have a leading person, unless there is only 1 person in the group matching the age criteria. If 2 or more group members meet this criteria, you may split the roles as you wish, as long as the teenagers take a central role in the process.
The broad topic of the contest is ‘conflicts over resources’. This includes, but is not limited to, questions such as:
- Are resources infinite in our planet? In your context?
- What resource/s do you want to preserve/are most valuable to you?
- Show an example of a conflict for natural resources near you/that you know about.
- Share your ideas on how to resolve the conflict for natural resources (e.g., for one selected resource).
- Video: You need to produce an up to 2 minutes video addressing the topic of the competition. This can either be original YouTube video style or Shorts/ Reel/ TikTok style. The choice is yours!
- Language: The language spoken in the video must be English OR in your language, subbed (e.g. you speak your language and add English subtitles to your video).
- Please provide a transcript of your video translated in English upon submission. The transcript only needs to contain the spoken/ written word in English, no scene description and a simple Word document or PDF is sufficient (or a picture of the written text if you have it handwritten).
- Format: The format can be any common video format such as mp4, hd, h264 and the maximum file size is at 1GB.
- 1st: Gift Card 550 EUR
- 2nd: Gift Card 350 EUR
- 3rd: Gift Card 250 EUR
- + 7 gift cards of 50 EUR
The judging criteria are based on:
- your creativity,
- the presentation of the topic,
- and the technical implementation (video recording, editing...).
The average age of the leading participants will be considered during the first round of judging.
Selection process:
The videos will be judged in two rounds:
- Selection of 10 videos by the CIRAN project partners (https://ciranproject.eu/consortium/),
- The selected 10 videos will proceed to public voting for the final classification of winners. Public voting will be advertised on CIRAN Social Media. Further details will be announced.
- Deadline for Submissions: 31 May 2025
- Publication of 10 Finalists: June
- Public Voting: June/July
- Announcement of Winners: July
Please note that this is an indicative timeline, and that it may vary according to project developments and needs.

You can find some tips & tricks regarding filming and video editing here (check "Multiple languages" to download a translated version).
For compiling multiple statements of consent into one document you have some options:
- Scan all at the same time and save them into one document. Perhaps one of your teachers can help you at school or one your parents can do this for you. Make sure they are filled in and signed by everyone!
- Scan them as images and add all into one Word document. Save the document as PDF.
- Use a PDF Reader such as Adobe PDF or NitroPDF to merge multiple PDF files into one. If you do not have a paid subscription, you can use a free PDF merger (https://www.ilovepdf.com/merge_pdf).
Step 1: Record your video! If you do not know where and how to start, have a look at our tips & tricks (in English here & available in "Multiple languges").
Step 2: Download, fill in, sign, and scan the statement(s) of consent (download here).
- If you are participating as a team, each under-aged member of the team needs to provide a statement of consent signed by their parents/legal guardians, and remember to TICK THE BOX to agree to the privacy policy at the time of submission.
- If there is more than one minor team member, please compile all the statements of consent signed by the parents/legal guardians together in a unique file and upload it (check the “Tips and Tricks” section for help).
Step 3: Complete the Submission Form here, upload your video file, and the necessary signed statement(s) of consent. *Please note that an email address for logging into Google is required at the beginning, so that you can request a copy of your responses after submission.
Reminder:
- Only video files are allowed (links to videos will not be valid). The most common video files are: hd, mp4, h264.
- The Video file can have a maximum size of 1GB.
- The deadline to submit your video is 31 May 2025.
If you experience any technical issues during the uploading process, please contact Helena Robert i Campos (Video Contest coordinator, La Palma Research Centre) at helena.robert.campos@lapalmacentre.eu.
